This passage is from the poem written by Hae In Lee, a nun. It was a discovery I made by chance. I later found out it was written when she was fighting against cancer.
“...
My blood leaked white
Still held to the end
Became a single flower.
Fruits ripened through my pain,
Alive or passed
Want to flaunt it as my treasure.
It’s not too heavy
To bring it on my trip to heaven
It’s an essential”
“I am so happy nowadays because I live like a treasure hunter on an island,
in the middle of the sea called, “everyday”.
Opening the eyes of my heart wide open,
I see myself surrounded by treasures!
Some treasures I lost sight of because I was naive
but there are also many treasures that I found again.
My hope is high as a clear blue and bright sky because I can give new thanks each day
for many treasures that are yet to be found.”
My children and I used to play the game, “treasure hunt” at night before going to bed. We spent time searching for the treasures to be thankful for throughout the day. However, as my children got older, we stopped playing the game. I guess now is the time to start it again. My children and I will need to learn once again how to live day by day like treasure hunters searching for the hidden gem to be thankful for.
