Then he took a cup, and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, “Drink from it, all of you.
This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
(Matthew 26:27-28)
This is what Jesus said to His disciples the night before his crucifixion. Jesus knew the pain and suffering he would have to experience the next day. Jesus knew His body would be torn like broken bread and His blood shed like red wine. However, He offered a prayer of gratitude to God.
What was Jesus thankful for ?
What was it that made Him so thankful ?
You and I…
Perhaps he was thankful that through His suffering you and I would be able to experience salvation.
This week is Holy week.
We are invited to enter into Jesus’s suffering and meditate on it.
The very thing to which we need to heighten our awareness and draw our attention to during this Holy week is ‘the love of Jesus’ .
Even though he gave us everything he had and he had to endure such intolerable pain, it is the love that made him thankful knowing that it could bring about our salvation…
I hope that during this week we would pray and try to internalize His deep love for us.
Following the shepherd…
