We want others to understand our feelings and thoughts. But empathizing and sympathizing with each other’s emotions and situations are not always easy for us. Even between parents and children, between friends, and between husbands and wives who know each other very well, it is sometimes hard to understand each other. Maybe such close relationships make it harder for them to get together into common understanding.

Between people and between each other’s situations, we need a space to meet together and come to an understanding. We need someone who can be a mediator among us.

The park in the middle of Boston is called “Boston Common”. The “Common” ground is a place where we can mingle together and share each other’s feelings and thoughts. Wouldn’t it be nice to have the “Common” ground where our hearts can mingle together? Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone can come closer to the “Common” ground step by step each day?

When dealing with circumstances that makes it hard to understand others, we should look up and see our Lord. Even when circumstances come where people don’t understand us, we should come to God by prayer.  God is our “Common” ground.  He is the place where all of us can come together, and he is the hub that connects people. We should come to our God.  This way, we will understand others more with the hearts of God, and we will see further with the eyes of the Lord.

Let’s get together at Hanmaum Common. Let’s get together in God. Then we can see each other with the heart of God and understand each other’s situations with the eyes of God. We can become one only in God.
